Tanzania Calving Photo Safari

Overview

Every year, during the period of January-March nearly 1 million wildebeest congregate on the plains of the Ndutu and Serengeti plains to give birth to approximately 400,000 calves. Making this a wildlife spectacle not to be missed. The abundance of game and fresh births attracts many predators and therefore providing for an abundance of fantastic wildlife and photographic opportunities.

This exciting 10-day/9-night small group Tanzania wildebeest calving wildlife photo tour takes in some of Tanzania’s most prolific areas. Starting off with a visit to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater before we spend 7 nights split across two locations in the South and South- Eastern part of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro conservation area. The best areas for where the wildlife action can be found at this time of the year. Our accommodation on this photographic wildlife safari  is a mix of comfortable lodges and two different luxury tented camps that are positioned each season in the best wildlife viewing areas.

Our Tanzania Wildebeest Calving safari will be characterised by maximising time in the field with photographic tuition provided during all game drives and also back at camp. This will include tuition in both traditional and also creative photographic techniques. Such as high and low-key photography as well as panning techniques with slow shutter speeds and of course optimizing all light conditions to hand. Photographers of any level are all very welcome on this tour as well as keen wildlife enthusiasts.

The Game Vehicles

With a maximum group size of 6 people, we will use two extended modified game viewing vehicles that are specifically designed for our photographic safaris and are unlike most game vehicles traditionally used in Tanzania that have glass windows.

The vehicle is equipped with comfortable seating, open sides and an open roof area. On this photographic safari we will put no more than 3 guests in each vehicle. This provides each guest with their own row and access to both sides of the vehicle with large unobstructed views on both sides and plenty of room for your camera equipment

The openings on each side of the car are large and allow you to shoot from either the side of the vehicle or if preferred from the open roof. The roof provided is a ‘pop up’ that provides ample room to stand and plenty of head room, whilst also providing shade from the heat of the sun.

Each vehicle also has a large fridge in the back of the main seating area that is always fully stocked with plenty of bottled water as well as on-boar d charging facilities. The vehicle also carries tea, coffee and breakfast for your morning bush breakfasts, when you have the opportunity to disembark the vehicle and stretch your legs.

We provide photographic bean bags for each guest that are easily used within the vehicle and will provide stability for those guests using long lenses.
