During our photographic tours we ensure that every guest has a first rate experience from start to finish. With our extensive guiding and photography experience we ensure attention to every detail.
putTINg our guests first
We understand the time and money that you will have invested into a photography tour, also that for many these trips are a once in a lifetime experience, This is something we never lose sight of and we ensure we provide a first rate experience for all of our guests. One of the reasons why we are proud to welcome back many repeat clients year after year.
During game drives we sit next to the local guide/driver and this ensures we do not encroach upon our guests own space, and ensures we can effectively communicate with the guide to ensure the best position at sightings. Whilst we do capture images ourselves during our safaris you will find we never prioritise our position at sightings over guests.
a friendly & welcoming atmosphere
With our friendly personalities we deliver a unique successful and husband and wife dynamic to our photographic tours. Creating both a friendly and fun atmosphere in which to learn and enjoy both nature and photography. We are proud to welcome back many repeat guests who over the years have now become firm friends and watching their photography improve on each trip provides us with immense pleasure. Most importantly we firmly believe that there is no such thing as a silly question!
Knowledge & Experience
Not only do we have a vast experience of photography but also significant experience in each of the areas we visit during our photography safaris. With a vast experience of leading photographic tours and safaris. During our photographic tours we work with our local field guides to ensure that we are best positioned at sightings. Our photographic experience ensures we are well placed to maximise the potential at all sightings, including effective positioning of the game vehicles and the best use of light. We share our wildlife and photographic knowledge with our guests to ensure everyone returns home with an excellent suite of images and an increased knowledge of photography.
IN-DEPTH & bespoke PHOTOGRAPHIC TUITION
We ensure we cater our tuition for each guest on a bespoke level. We discuss with each person on our trip what they are looking to achieve during their time with us, both in the species they are looking to spend time with and also what they want to achieve with their photography. We welcome both beginners to photography as well as the more experienced photographers who are looking to push their photography to the next level. During our photographic tours we include tuition (but not limited to) on the following areas of photography:
- Understanding what makes a good exposure
- Understanding the modes on your camera, including shutter and aperture priority and manual mode and when each mode is best suited
- Understanding camera metering modes and when each is best suited
- Working with light (high and low key, using back light and front light)
- Use of creative camera techniques – i.e. slow panning
- Composition techniques
- Post processing using Lightroom
Excellent host to guest ratio
Unless stated, on each of our photographic tours you will be accompanied by both of us. With most of our group sizes varying from 6-8 guests. This ensures we can dedicate more time to each guest. We will both occupy a separate game vehicle (for groups of 6-8 we have a minimum of 2 game vehicles). We also ensure that you spend equal time with us both, which also provides the benefit that you will learn from both of our different styles of photography.
DOING THE TIME IN THE FIELD
We believe that spending plenty in time in the field is the key factor of a good photographic safari. That ultimatley reaps dividends for your photography, This does mean our photographic tours include some early starts and spending hours out in the field. However, a photo safari with us will ensure we certainly maximise all game viewing potential.
FIRST CLASS WILDLIFE DESTINATIONS
With our travel experience we visit locations that offer world class opportunities to view wildlife in their natural environment. The locations we visit on group photographic tours comes from years of personal experience and also a significant amount of research to ensure that each hand picked destination offers excellent wildlife photographic opportunities.
LOCAL RELATIONSHIPs & EXCELLENT LOCAL GUIDES
Before using any suppliers locally we undertake a significant amount of ‘due diligence’ to ensure they are right for our groups. This can often take several weeks of both desk and field research. We ensure we work with local guides who know and understand our aims and with experience in guiding photographic groups. We only use local guides who are experienced in the area they operate in and accredited with nationally recognised guiding qualifications. Over the years we are proud to have built up excellent relationships with our local ground agents and local guides and this we feel reflects in our photographic tours & safaris.
It is vital to us that everyone who joins us on safari feels they are well prepared, this advice starts the moment you contact us. We welcome as many questions as needed, in fact we love it when you ask us questions! Developing a relationship with our guests starts from the moment you first make contact with us. Before your safari, around 6-8 weeks before we send you a detail document that covers a wide array of advice. This includes general advice of the country you are visiting, packing advice, advice on what camera’s and lenses are best suited and a myriad of other useful information to ensure you are well prepared.
PROVIDING THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS & WILDLIFE ENTHUSIASTS
We know and understand what is important to a successful photography trip and one of the key points is providing good game vehicles. We use only those vehicles that we feel are suited to photography and that provide a spacious game viewing experience. Therefore on all of our tours we ensure that we do not ‘overfill’ vehicles. On many of our tours to Africa we ensure that each guest, whether you are photographer or not has their own row of seating, providing you unobscured viewing. The maximum number of people we ever put into one safari vehicle (In Africa) is 4 guests (in a 7-seater vehicle) and in many cases this is only 3 guests, allowing each guest their own row. Please consult each specific tour for detail of the vehicles used on each of our safari tours. We also provide every guest (applies to all Africa & India tours) with their own bean bag in which to stabilise camera and lenses and for those who wish to bring their own we are able to prearrange materials for filling this in camp.
Catering for all levels of experience
Our photographic tours cater for beginners to the more experienced photographer. If you are not a photographer then we absolutely still welcome you along! All we ask is for those who are not taking images or for those less interested in learning the technical aspects of photography that you are willing to be patient at sightings and happy to do the early starts in order to maximise the potential of great wildlife sightings.
With our experience in each area we lead photographic tours to locations where have gained n excellent knowledge. That allows us to provide itineraries that ensures the maximum potential of wildlife viewing and in the best wildlife viewing areas. We prefer not to offer short and ‘hurried’ itineraries as we feel this can affect the success of photographing each species and being able to capture and witness interesting behaviours.
Fair COSTS FOR single travellers
Hitting single travellers hard with high single supplements is not something we do! Many of our guests are single travellers and we work hard with our local suppliers to offer single supplement pricing that does not cost the earth. Therefore we are proud to feature tours where single supplement options are usually only between 10-15% of the tour cost and in some cases much less. Where availability allows and for those sole travellers who do not wish to take the single room options we do of-course often the option to share a room with likeminded travellers of the same gender who are also willing to share.
