What we can see

On our Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari, we’ll be on the lookout for a variety of species. We hope to spot the elusive Royal Bengal tiger in all three parks. In addition to tigers, we’ll also be searching for other mammal species. Highlights are Indian leopard, sloth bear and Indian forest elephant. Rhesus macaques and Grey langurs provide entertaining viewing and interesting photographic opportunities. Prey species include sambah, spotted deer, barasingha and wild boar. Gaur, or Indian bison are prestent throughout the national parks. We will also look out for jungle cat, mongoose, jackal and fox, along with any other animals we may see.

All three national parks are havens for birds. With up to 300 recorded species, Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari is also a must for all bird lovers. Birds of prey include crested serpent and hawk eagle, alongside brown fish owl and Indian scops owl. The call of the Indian peafowl is abundant, whilst colourful Indian pitta, rollers, bee-eaters and paradise flycatchers can be found. This tour is perfect for anyone who loves nature!

Game-drives

We make it a priority to secure all game drives and permits as soon as they become available, which is four months ahead of the tour dates. Our local operator has strong connections within the National Park network, allowing us to gather valuable insights from local guides and drivers in the lead up to obtaining the permits. This helps us to book the prime areas, ensuring our groups have the best chances of spotting tigers. Your host, Bali, will take turns in the vehicles, ensuring that everyone has a chance to spend some time with him in the field.

During the morning drives in all three national parks we will enjoy a packed breakfast at a designated rest point. Guests can stretch their legs and make us of the toilet facilities.

Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari offers a total of fourteen game drives to make the most of our time in the wild. Our goal is to provide optimum chances for wildlife viewing. We are confident that this tour will meet the expectations of all nature enthusiasts, whether it’s your first visit to India or not.

Accommodation

Throughout Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari, we stay in delightful and reputable mid-range lodges. Each lodge offers tastefully decorated, air-conditioned rooms and outdoor seating areas. Conveniently situated near the park entrances, the accommodations also boast a swimming pool and a variety of inviting indoor and outdoor spaces where you can unwind between game drives.

Once we depart from Delhi, all your meals are included. The lodges at each national park cater for us on a full board basis, providing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Alcohol and soft drinks are not included.

Time of year

Our departures in March align with India’s dry season, making it one of the prime times to see and capture stunning images of tigers in their natural habitat. While temperatures can be hot averaging between 30-35°C, the vegetation is less dense. This opens up better visibility and enhances your chances of spotting tigers and other wildlife as they gather around watering holes.

The tigers take pleasure in cooling off in the various water holes scattered throughout the national parks during this period. This provides us with a wonderful chance to observe the tigers as they unwind in the water to beat the midday heat.

What to Expect

close up photo of tiger Indian photographic tour

With an experienced naturalist leading the tour, you can expect all your questions and observations to be answered and enhancing your experience of the areas visited. As you explore the three national narks, Bali will provide valuable insights into the vibrant landscapes and ecosystems, emphasizing the ecological importance of Pench, Kanha, and Bandhavgarh to India.

In March, the weather tends to be hot, with temperatures sometimes reaching up to 35°C during the day and settling in the mid 20s at night. Fortunately, during the hottest part of the day, we relax in our charming air-conditioned lodges, each featuring spacious guest rooms and with optional massage service, and each lodge has a lovely outdoor pool.

Visitors should keep in mind that the game driving paths in the park can be a bit rough and dusty. But don’t worry, this just enhances the thrill of the experience! As with any wildlife excursion, spotting tigers can’t be promised. That said, every group we’ve had so far has been lucky enough to see tigers on each of our Tigers of Bandhavgarh Photo Safaris, with some even spotting several tigers in a single day!

your host

Balvinder Singh is at the helm of our Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari, bringing a wealth of knowledge as a naturalist. We have collaborated with Bali for nine years, and he remains an essential part of our current India photo tours. Growing up in India, Bali is not only an award-winning guide but also a recognized leader; in 2010, Wanderlust magazine named him one of the top ten leaders globally. He has a strong background as a past guide for Exodus Travels and has extensive experience exploring India, leading groups to uncover the marvels of its wildlife. We are proud to be partnering with with Bali for our Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari

The Game Vehicles

The Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari accommodates a maximum of 9 guests per group. When the group is full, we utilize up to three ‘gypsy style’ game viewing vehicles, which are popular for Indian safaris.

These vehicles feature open sides and an open roof that allows for an unobstructed view. Each game vehicle will carry no more than 4 people, and your host will rotate among the three jeeps used during the game drives.

Our game drives are led by skilled drivers who possess extensive knowledge of the local tiger population. In addition to the driver, each national park provides a qualified local field guide who specializes in navigating the terrain and locating tigers. Your host, Bali, will take turns in the vehicles, rotating throughout the group. This ensures that everyone has a chance to spend some time with him in the field.

For smaller groups of 1-3 guests, there will be one jeep; for groups of 4-7 guests, there will be two jeeps; and for groups of 8-9 guests, we will use all three jeeps.

national park game-drive permits

Due to the strict restriction on the number of jeeps allowed to enter the national parks, we have to book game-drive permits 120 days in advance. Bali has very strong connections with the local ground staff, including guides and jeep drivers at each park. Using this information allows us to secure permits in the most desired zones at the time. Tiger sightings are never guaranteed, however using our local knowledge combined with visiting there three national parks, maximises our groups chances of seeing tigers in the wild.

During the trip, swapping or changing 4×4 vehicles is not permitted. Each vehicle can accommodate four named people. Guests must carry their passports when entering the national parks for this reason. Once obtained, the game-drive permits are not refundable. If we are unable to arrange the game drives and have to cancel your trip, you will receive a full refund.

It’s also crucial that you provide us with your accurate passport information at the time of booking. If you travel with a different passport, you will need to bring your old passport or a photocopy of it.

Bookings close on the 31st October, 2026, we advise you to book as early as possible if traveling with others. This enables us to ensure you will be seated in the same game vehicle.

Day 3

This morning, we’ll set off from the lodge bright and early (the park gates open at 5:50 am) for our first game drive into Pench National Park. Nestled in the southern range of the Saptura hills, Pench is a stunning national park characterized by its teak and deciduous forests, famously inspiring Kipling’s Jungle Book. The park boasts a rich biodiversity, home to a healthy population of Bengal tigers, leopards, and sloth bears, along with numerous smaller animal species. The park opens its gates at sunrise, so we’ll kick off our adventure early, exploring the diverse wildlife and bird species that inhabit this beautiful area. Kanha’s landscape is quite distinct from that of Pench, featuring a blend of deciduous and bamboo forests, rocky cliffs, and vibrant grasslands. In addition to its thriving tiger population, Kanha is renowned for successfully reviving the barasingha, a large deer species that can now be frequently spotted in the park. With around 300 bird species, it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise!

During our game drive, we’ll enjoy a picnic breakfast at a scenic spot before returning to the lodge by mid-morning (around 11 am) when the park closes. You’ll have some time to take a refreshing dip in the pool, unwind in the lodge grounds, or even indulge in a massage. Lunch is a casual affair and can be taken at any time by guests.

After lunch, you can relax a bit more before we venture back into Kanha National Park. The park reopens at 3 pm and remains accessible until sunset. In the evening, we’ll come together for a delightful group dinner. Overnight: Kanha Jungle Camp (breakfast, lunch & dinner).

Overnight: Bandhav Villas (breakfast, lunch & dinner).

Day 10-11

Over the next two days, we will embark on exciting game drives twice a day in the stunning Bandhavgarh National Park, which is just a short drive from our lodge. This picturesque park is surrounded by numerous smaller hills, with gently sloping valleys that lead to charming, swampy meadows. Bandhavgarh is rich in biodiversity and features a remarkable natural fort perched on Bandhavgarh Hill, which rises 811 meters above sea level.

During our morning game drive, we will stop for a delightful picnic breakfast at a designated location before returning to the lodge by mid-morning (around 11 am) when the park closes. You’ll have some leisure time to take a refreshing dip in the pool, unwind in the lodge grounds, or even indulge in a soothing massage before we gather for lunch. Lunch is a casual affair and can be taken at any time by guests.

After lunch, you can relax a bit before we venture back into Bandhavgarh National Park. The park is open from 3 pm until sunset, and later in the evening, we will come together for a lovely dinner as a group. Overnight: Bandhav Villas (breakfast, lunch & dinner).

Day 12

After breakfast our group will then take the 3-4-hour road transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to Jabalpur airport, with a rest break during the journey. Pre-Trip advice

A couple of months before your trip, you’ll get a detailed document filled with packing tips and a wealth of other helpful information for our Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari. Below, you’ll find some important details that could be beneficial as you consider booking your safari with us

Tour language

This tour is an English speaking tour. Please note: that not all lodge staff or forest guides will have a good understanding and use of understanding the English language. However, we do have a local Indian guide (Balvinder Singh) who is able to assist here if required.

VisaS

Foreign nationals visiting India must obtain a visa prior to their arrival in India. The new e-visa system can be accessed here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Please be aware that the application form can be quite lengthy, so it is therefore advised to allow at least one – two hours to complete! Visas are usually granted quite fast (2-3 days). Please be wary of other visa providers who may charge extra for the visa service. We recommend using the government’s own website to avoid extra visa service fees.

Please note it is your responsibility to also ensure that your passport is valid for a minimum of six months and has several clear pages for visas prior to departure. We suggest that you check your status as regards visas prior to travel as they can change on a regular basis.

Vaccinations

We are not qualified or legally allowed to provide vaccination or medical advice. Therefore. you should consult your travel nurse or doctors for specific medical advice and up to date advise on vaccinations required. We suggest doing this at least 2-3 months prior to travel or sooner if this allows.

Generally recommended vaccinations are: Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Typhoid, Hepatitis A.

The below link will provide as a guide as to what is needed. https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-east/india

Diarrhea / Giardia etc. –  good personal hygiene and control over the quality of your drinking water should avoid this, bottled water is readily available throughout the country, but take along some diarrhea and rehydration medicine just in case, particularly if you are planning to spend some time traveling alone and not with a tour.  We recommend that guests buy only bottled water with the seal intact. Bottled water is usually provided free of charge as standard at most safari lodges and tented camps. Please ensure bottled water is used when brushing one’s teeth, even in well-established camps and city lodges.

Fitness Level Required

This tour does not require a high level of fitness. However, guests should be able to get in/out of a game vehicle (a step up/down of around 2 feet) with little or no assistance and should be capable of walking up to 200 metres to and from their room at the lodges/hotels with their own camera equipment. Guests should also be aware of the high temperatures below that can be experienced at this time of the year. See below.

Weather & environmental conditions

During March in India it is their summer, late mornings and afternoons will likely to reach mid 30ºs. Usually on average temperatures will be around 28-35 °C, but they can also go to as high as 35-degrees. Rain at this time of the year is generally not experienced, although occasionally there can be the odd thunderstorm. Our lodge and our rooms have very good air conditioning and most rooms also have a fridge.

You may require a lightweight fleece or a light sweater for a short time while during morning safaris. The moment the sun starts coming up, it starts getting very hot. The heat can start from early/mid-morning.

It is very important to avoid dehydration in these temperatures by wearing a hat and drinking plenty of water. In the evening it can still be warm. On our group photo safaris, we use air-conditioned hotels and lodges.

Internal Flights

Please be aware of the 15kg weight allowance for your hold luggage for the internal flights. Additional luggage may be permitted at a cost to be payable by the guests at approx 500 rupees per KG.

Camera Equipment

For game viewing we would recommend bringing a camera/lenses that can cater for a range of distances, A good starting point is to have a camera/lens that can accommodate focal lengths of between 100 – 400mm. In general, you will be using longer lenses/focal length for the majority of the time. However, some tiger sightings may be experienced at much closer focal lengths, or you may want to take a more wider-angle lens for environment images. Therefore, we would recommend lenses/cameras that provides a minimum of around 70-100mm focal length, with the opportunity of a zoom lens or an alternative lens that can cater for sightings at a further distance (e.g. 400mm – 600mm)

Often on safari you will be photographing in the early morning and early evening and therefore sometimes in low light. So, for those more serious photographers we therefore recommend faster lenses, for example F4 or below. Further information on photography equipment will be supplied as part of your pre-trip advice.

Gratuities

Gratuities are not included in the cost of your safari. What you provide as a gratuity is very much up to the individual traveler. Tipping is expected and is an integral aspect of Indian culture. It’s a good idea to carry local currency for this purpose. Wages for most nationals of India in the national parks are very low and as we like to ensure we are tipping for the good service we receive from local staff.

We respectfully ask guests attending this wildlife tour to provide a total of INR 9000 please per person to your host (TBC on final itinerary). This will cover all of your day to day tipping requirements during the trip and also for some services whilst in Delhi that your host will take care of. Please provide this amount in the local currency (Rupee). This tipping amount will be confirmed on your final itinerary.

Your host will collect this amount from you at the beginning of the tour or on the first night at Pench Jungle Camp. This avoids you having to worry about paying gratuities daily or at end of the trip. We have found this works best for our guests and also based on previous feedback.

Tipping for your host Bali is not compulsory, however in India it is very much customary to do so. We suggest tipping at end of the tour and recommend an amount of around 600-800 Rupees per person per day. This works out approximately 8000-10000 INR for the 13 day trip for your host gratuities.

Further detail on gratuities will be provided as part of the pre-trip advice.

WiFi/Phone Network Access

At most of the lodges or hotels in India there is Wi-Fi access. However, please be aware that the speed of these networks may be much slower than normal broadband speeds. There is generally good access to cellular networks in Delhi. However, this can be very sporadic in the more rural areas of India.

Due to new regulations announced in January 2025, carrying satellite phones and dedicated gps/satellite communication devices are not permitted in India. Mobile telephone and normal smart watches are permitted.

Dietary

We can accommodate most dietary requests if you let us know at least two months before your departure. Please utilise the section on our booking form when you come to complete in order to list and specific dietary.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend purchasing your own travel insurance at the time of booking. This will cover any eventualities should you need to cancel your tour due to unforeseen circumstances and also cover you financially for any health needs on tour . Both the deposit and final balances are non-refundable. Please see our terms and conditions for cancellation charges. Guests travelling without their own travel insurance do so at their own risk and Images of Wildlife accept no liability for any costs to cancel or costs for medical needs.

YOUR TOUR LEADER – BALVINDER SINGH

We are honoured to have Bali as part of the Images of Wildlife team. We have worked with him for many years in India and he now leads two of our tours, and co-hosts another within this beautifully diverse country.Balvinder Singh, known as Bali to his friends, attended school in Delhi. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Travel & Tourism whilst simultaneously studying for a three-year diploma in French language.

Upon completion of his studies, he worked for a small local Inbound tour company, specializing in trekking groups from France. Eventually the company became the local operator for Exodus Travels UK, hosting international groups alongside English leaders. These tours focused on discovery, culture, adventure and wildlife. In 2005, Exodus stopped using their own English leaders, instead making full use of their knowledgeable local Indian leaders, including Bali, For the next decade Bali was hosting and leading groups all across his beloved home country. on behalf of this large UK based adventure tour operator.

Throughout this time, he gained extensive experience in trekking with groups in the Himalayas, alongside leading cultural and discovery tours all across India. Eventually, Bali began leading wildlife trips to tiger reserves and national parks in India. This ignited his passion and thirst for Indian wildlife and nature photography that would change his future life path.

Bali’s awards & Experience with Images of Wildlife

He became one of the top Indian tour leaders, and twice he was awarded Best Commended Tour Leader of the year award by Exodus. In 2010 he was nominated by Wanderlust magazine as one of the 10 best leaders worldwide. In 2015, Bali set up his own company, specializing in wildlife trips. Using his previously gained knowledge as a tour leader and naturalist, he began offering birding and tiger tours in India. In 2017 Images of Wildlife began using Bali as our local operator for our Tigers of Bandhavgarh Photo Safari. His knowledge not only of Indian nature, but also the national parks and its network of guides became invaluable to the success of this tour.

Bali now leads our Snow Leopards of Spiti Valley Himalayan Adventure and our Tigers & Wildlife of India Safari whilst continuing to co-host our Tigers of Bandhavgarh Photo Safari with our team of photography guides. His friendly demeanour and outstanding knowledge of Indian wildlife makes him a hit with guests and an asset to the Images of Wildlife team. He is a self-taught and keen wildlife photographer and uses Canon.
